The Kemper Foundation (KF) is a non-profit organization established in the Netherlands in 1993. Its purpose is to promote grassroot development in Sahel, especially in Senegal. KF programs support small-scale projects that fully meet local needs and requirements in Africa.
Access to primary education for deaf children is one of the most important issues but is yet often overlooked. Since 2003, we have been actively working with parents to help deaf children escape their isolation. KF has developed its own original method and teaches sign language to monitors. We also pay close attention to cultural development and the integration of deaf people into the community. As a result of our efforts, 700 deaf children have found a place in society to date.
Another major issue is that national primary education is not sufficiently adapted to face local challenges. The KF program “Better living with acquired knowledge” helps with the creation of learning centers (see drawing). Short thematic seminars, self-studies and cultural activities can take place here.
